Reuseable Air Filter Frame
American Air Filters sought a product designer to help them solve the problem of creating an attractive, simple and re-useable air filter for domestic air-handling systems.
Through several iterative processes a workable solution was reached. The result was this hexagonal "honeycombed" design with an "AAF red" handle & lock.
The project involved solving numerous egineering challenges such as optimizing air-flow, ensuring the appropriate grip on the filter medium and of course ease-of-use for the end-user.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this project was the international collaboration with the US company. Both communication and engineering exercises had slightly extra complexity due to the differing measurement systems and professional terminologies, language and etiquette.
